A white envelope torn open with my credit card bill spread out all over the kitchen table.

My son was looking at it, shaking his head in disgust.

I was horrified.  I didn't know what he might find in that bill.  There was certainly stuff he should be shaking his head at... gambling, drinking, worse...

But this was my 16-year old boy!

I didn't want him knowing my deepest, darkest secrets.

And they were all right there in that bill, plain as day.

But I didn't let on.

"What?", I said, playing it cool.

After what felt like an hour, he replied...

"You haven't even been making minimum payments!  You'll never get out of debt that way," he told me. 

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.  Laugh because he didn't see any of the bad stuff I was so worried about...

But cry because he was right - I didn't ever see a way out of this credit card debt.

What he said next floored me...

"My friend Pete's dad had like $25,000 in credit card debt.  They were going to lose their house.  But then he saw this new loan program that really helps people.  It made most of their credit card debt just go away."

"The cool thing is... you can use the money for anything.  Even vacations or a new car."

It sounded too good to be true to me.  But I knew Pete's dad.  And I had seen a change in him.  He seemed lighter and happier.

Turns out all he did was fill in this quick form, take a quick phone call, and now be's in a much better place.  Same with me.
